Stacked wedge by Howard Bowcott

The wedge shaped slate sculpture was inspired by the slate quarries of north Wales and the dry stone walls which are a feature of the area. Each slate has been cut by hand and painstakingly arranged to make the elegant triangular form at the centre of the work. The setting provides a circle in which to sit and view the work more closely. On top of the wall are relief sculptures in slate which mark the four compass points, while underneath are placed boulders collected from the furthest points on the horizon. The slate ‘shadow.’ picked out in the paving, points to magnetic north.

Windvane/seat by Christian Brown

Metal worker Christian Brown has combined a highly original windvane into his circular seat. The abstract shape on top turns in the wind to signal its direction while the lettering on the seat denotes the compass points.
